ANOTHER BIG ‘H’ SIGHTING - As the AC boats take center stage this week there is another hi-tech monster sailing the bay sizing up it’s prey as it speeds across the water at TWICE the speed of the AC 45′s.

This sighting is from Greg of BAMA (Bay Area Multihull Association) and the crew of the Origami:

“After a day of watching the America’s Cup world series Aug 23, 2012 races in San Francisco, the F27 Origami’s crew gets up close with the world’s fastest ocean sailer! About an hour before weighing anchor, we were thinking…

“too bad we didn’t see the Hydroptere tri out here today”.  But as they were half way back to Sausalito…be careful what you wish for!”

HOME MOVIES – Owen Clarke Open 50 Truth sailing the 2012 BAMA Doublehanded Farallones race. Terrible storm conditions at the start had us thinking it was going to be a tough day – but alas sunshine prevailed and Zan and I enjoyed beautiful scenery and even more beautiful sailing. Huge waves on the Potato Patch launched us!

HOME MOVIES – Moore 24 “US 101″ racing in the 2012 Doublehanded Farallones race; a 56 nm ocean race starting and ending in San Francisco, CA. Ronnie Simpson and crew Ruben Gabriel finished 1st in class and 1st overall, sailing the smallest boat in the fleet. Out of 58 entries, only 14 boats started and only 8 finished, owing to a very severe forecast and 50-knot puffs in the pre-start. Ronnie and Ruben will both be racing Moore 24′s in the 2012 Singlehanded Transpac. Ronnie is racing on behalf of ‘Hope for the Warriors’, a wounded-veteran non-profit, and his goal is to raise money to teach wounded veterans how to sail.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE-  For your entertainment I’m submitting a blog link to the build of a local Farrier F36 tri. Construction of sail #5 started in 1995; now these hulls have changed hands and moved to a shop in Santa Rosa. The optimistic plan is to launch a new BAMA boat in time for a whole bunch of us to watch the America’s Cup finals from the tramps. Just a few hundred big things to do before then!   There’s a “Join this site” button if you want to be notified of updates. And if you’re itching to have a look in person, drop me a line as most weekend mornings the shop’s humming along. My parents and coworkers think I’m a little nuts as building rookie; Drew Scott and Steven Marcoe think it’s a fine idea. Time will tell who wins this argument! Greg F27 Origami F36 005 MORE STORY
