AC NEWS – Emirates Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Challenge are tied 1-1 in the 30th anniversary Louis Vuitton Cup Final. Today the two crews hope to get two races in to get the Louis Vuitton Cup Final back on schedule. Strong afternoon winds over the weekend forced the postponement of the second scheduled race on Saturday and Sunday.
Today’s first race, Race 3 of the series, is scheduled to start at 1210 and the second at 1310. The racing will air live on ESPN3 beginning at 1200. The broadcast will air internationally on the America’s Cup YouTube channel, subject to territorial restrictions, and a full replay will be posted to YouTube after racing. Locally in the Bay Area the racing will be broadcast on COZI-TV (11.2).
The wind is forecast 14-17 knots and the wind limit for Race 3 is 20.9 knots and Race 4 is 19.4 knots, reduced by a -1.6-knot ebb tide. In Race 3 Luna Rossa Challenge will enter the start box on port tack and in Race 4 it’ll be Emirates Team New Zealand on port tack.
Today marks the third straight day of racing for the two teams and they’re both looking for more reliability. The Italians suffered a problem with their starboard daggerboard system that inhibited their ability to compete in Race 1. Yesterday the Kiwis were forced from the race with a problem with the circuitry that controls the different hydraulic systems on the AC72.
America’s Cup defender ORACLE TEAM USA is not sailing today.
