AC NEWS – From the SFgate - The rumor roiled through the America’s Cup preparations like a squall: Oracle team owner Larry Ellison was so angry and frustrated with the city that even if he won the America’s Cup in 2013, he wasn’t going to bring the event back to San Francisco.
The rumors were true. City officials admit that Ellison did pitch a fit about a month ago. And threats were raised about invoking the “successive defense option,” under which the successful team does not have to stage the defense where the Cup was won. Maybe, it was suggested, someplace like Newport, R.I., or San Diego, might appreciate the event more.
