NEW PRODUCTS – Sheaveless “Shock” Blocks - The Ultra-Light, Ultra-Compact Line Purchase and Deflection Solution.

Designed to fit a wide array of small diameter rigging uses, the new Shocks are perfect for moderate load uses where minimal purchase is required.

Extremely compact, Shocks are carefully engineered to work well even if the load alignment is not straight. NEW PRODUCTS – Ronstan has revolutionized winch handle technology by introducing the new Quick-Lock™ product range with automatic handle insertion technology. Combined with other advanced features like the large Grab & Release push-button and two different handle styles, Quick-Lock™ is now the most intuitive and user-friendly winch handle available for racers and cruising sailors alike.

A true product innovation, Quick-Lock™ handles feature Ronstan’s patented auto quick-locking mechanism that allows anyone to immediately place the drive head into the winch socket without rotating a knob or depressing a button. Its stainless steel locking lever automatically retains the handle in place. For foolproof operation, Quick-Lock™ handles also feature a large Grab & Release button that extends up the length of the handle. This allows anyone to quickly and easily release the handle with only one-hand, even at a full extension reach. Ideal for inexperienced and experienced crew alike, the release button can be depressed using a thumb, finger or even a palm.

FSE ROBLINE APP:

Thursday

2013
Leave a Comment Written by XS Editor

PRODUCT NEWS – Innovation, reliability, and exceptional performance are what sailors are looking for when they choose their ropes. These attributes have also been key priorities of FSE Robline: the leading manufacturer of marine ropes. The company continually strives to improve the service level that it provides to its customers. Therefore it launched its interactive FSE Robline app for the iPad which is now available for free download in the Apple App Store.  It’s truly a must-have for every boater!

The heart of the app is the Rope Selector, which offers customers three excellent tools to select the right rope to meet their needs. These tools which service every boat type and sailing application are the Racing.Tool.Box, the Rope Guide and the OneDesign tool. The app also includes splicing instructions for each kind of braiding, the online catalogue with an overview of all FSE Robline products, and some interesting special features which provide additional support for sailors.

ROPE GUIDE

The Rope Guide section allows every sailor to find the right rope for his needs. The sailor starts the search by first specifying his boat length followed by his sailing type (Performance, Racing, Cruising, Dinghy, etc.) and the desired field of application (Main sheet, Spi sheet, Docklines, etc.). Within seconds, FSE Robline recommends the right products matching the criteria, which the customer can order right away per e-mail. This way, all it takes is a few clicks for sailors to find the ideal rope for their needs.

RACING.TOOL.BOX

Along the lines of “You request it, we play it!” customers can create their personalized rope by choosing their favorite cover and core from FSE Robline’s range of Racing products. Then, FSE Robline will braid the ropes so as to meet the required criteria. This way, they will feature all the right technical specifications for the sailor’s desired parameters such as breaking strength, stretch and creep behavior, abrasion characteristics, UV resistance and weight. The Racing.Tool.Box range incorporates only premium quality fibers and raw materials that allow the production of ultimate high-end marine ropes and custom-tailored solutions.

ONE DESIGN

One Design is specially made for sailors of One Design yachts. Sorted by boat type, the tool offers the right lines for all fields of application on the boat – including the exact length and diameter needed according to the category regulations. The two choices available are the High-end Racing kit and the Performance kit.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The Splicing instructions offered in the app are a very useful tool for every sailor. The easy step by step explanation guides through four different kinds of termination from Eye Splice to High-Tech-Splice. In addition, the app includes a worldwide weather and wind forecast as well as the FSE online catalogue and a QR code reader.

The new FSE Robline App for the iPad is now available for free download on the Apple App Store:https://itunes.apple.com/at/app/robline/id592394814?mt=8 Check it out!

CONSTRICTOR® ROPE CLUTCH

Friday

Leave a Comment Written by XS Editor

NEW PRODUCTS – New from Ronstan: The latest in design technology, the recently released Constrictor Textile Rope Clutch is the next generation of high performance rope holding. This product is now being sold exclusively through Ronstan International in the United States. Ronstan played a large role in the development and evolution of the Constrictor Textile Rope Clutch and is already seeing a great deal of interest and success.  Constrictors have been used in the America’s Cup, SORC, The Pineapple Cup and the Caribbean 600 on Maxi’s, Minis and IMOCA among others.

The Constrictor offers numerous benefits over traditional clutches including more strength, lower weight, less rope wear and greater flexibility:

The clutches can be released safely under load without the need to take up the load on a winch first.  The trip line can be remotely mounted giving boat owners increased flexibility in how/where they use the Constrictor.  It can be placed in the boom, top of the mast, under a deck cover or in a number of different locations with the release lines fed back to the cockpit.   Often smaller diameter lines can be used, given the higher rope holding power; an 8mm halyard may replace current 10 or 12mm halyards, saving cost and weight aloft. The clutches are available for lines sizes from 6mm up to 14mm.

Unlike all conventional clutches the Constrictor® system does not crush the rope between two metal surfaces. Instead, the loaded rope is held securely in a textile sock, itself attached to an anchor base. The rope runs freely through the sock in one direction, but is gripped instantly within the sock when running out in the opposite direction. This constrictor effect, patented by COUSIN Trestec, provides increasing holding power as the load increases.

NEW J/88 SPORTBOAT

J88

COOL DESIGNS – From the J design/build team that launched the J/70 and J/111, comes the NEW J/88, a 29’ mid-size family speedster with stability, style and sailing comfort. J/88 hits the sweet-spot in J Boat’s performance sprit range – large enough to provide the creature comforts of a sit-in cockpit, inboard diesel, overnighting interior and head; and small enough to be single-point lifted, owner trailered and stored.

If sailing is having your cake and eating it too, then the J/88 will be like ordering the whole dessert menu. Design highlights include a high-aspect, non-overlapping sail plan (no genoas) with a carbon fiber, double-spreader mast – deck stepped for easy rigging, tuning and keeping the main cabin dry. The 6.5 ft fixed, low VCG keel with molded GRP finish is similar to the J/70’s, ensuring a fair, smooth foil for every boat.  The result will be a ride that’s every bit as exciting as the J/88’s speedster siblings – fast and balanced upwind with planing performance downwind in moderate to fresh breezes.

On deck, the daysailing comforts include a spacious T-shaped cockpit (J/111 style) with seating and backrests forward of the floor-mounted traveler and a wide-open cockpit aft due to the tiller-steered, transom mounted high-aspect rudder.  Adding to J/88’s ease-of-sailing characteristics is an in-deck jib furler, retractable carbon bowsprit and cockpit-led sail controls.  Belowdecks, the J/88 sports a weekending layout with two full length settees, Igloo cooler, galley sink, private head forward of bulkhead and optional V-berth.

J/88 hull #1 is projected to launch in June 2013!  For more J/88 sailing information and details, please contact your local J/Dealer or J/Boats at JBOATS

SPEED DREAM

SPEED DREAM – Undergose sailing trials and announces a strategic partnership with Russian technology giant Yandex .

After an extended period refining the design and testing the internal keel cantingmechanism, SpeedDream27, a prototype for what will become the worlds fastestmonohull, was launched and sailed off Rockland, Maine. As a completely experimental boat there was quite rightly some anticipation as to how things would work but on its maiden sail, with the first puff of wind, the boat heeled and keel flew. It was a moment to be celebrated as it’s the first time a boat with an extreme canting keel was able to sail, as designed, with the keel completely out of the water.

“This was a great day for speed dream and I think for sailing” said lead designer and project innovator Vlad Murnikov.

we have taken some prvoen ideas extrapolated them out, and applied them to our prototype and the result is a boat that sails effortlessly with the keel flying. I am sure that some of the experimental aspects of Speed Dream will one day be applied to sailing in general to make boats faster and more fun to sail

Speed Dream’s skipper Cam Lewis was equally enthusiastic about the performance of the boat. “I have experienced a dedicated group of boat builders and designers, industry partners and sponsors during the process of developing

Speed Dream, all great people, talented and enthusiastic. This boat is bleeding edge technology, similar to the AC72’s in pushing some big limits in use of materials and brain power. With this project we will be able to change a small part of the world.” In addition to the successful sea trials

Speed Dream announced a strategic partnership with Yandex, one of Russia’s leading privately owned technology companies. The Yandex search portal attracts over 48.6 million unique viewers yet  it’s the computing power and technology side of the company that will be most beneficial to Speed Dream as the project moves forward. Phase two of the Yandex-

Speed Dream project is to build a larger offshore prototype, approximately 50-feet in length. The innovative features such as the flying keel, narrow wave-piercing sculpted hull, and leeward lifting foil will be applied to a larger yacht and tested in a blue water environment. At that point a decision will be made on the size, scope and technical innovations of a larger record setter capable of breaking all existing monohull records.
